# About AgainstPest

AgainstPest is an independent information site about residential and commercial pest management in the United States.

**We do not perform pest control. We do not dispatch technicians. We do not sell leads.** There is no phone number on this site and no lead form, because we are not in that business and have no intention of entering it.

That independence is not a marketing line. It is what makes a "prevention usually resolves this" verdict believable. A site that earns money by connecting you to a contractor has a structural reason to tell you that you need one — and if we did, you would be right to discount everything we say about sealing a gap yourself.

## Why this site exists

Pest control search is split between two kinds of content, and neither serves the reader well.

Exterminator marketing treats every sighting as an emergency requiring a contract. Do-it-yourself content recommends pesticide applications with no regard for the label, the target species, or whether the product is even legal for that use.

Neither reliably tells you the two things that actually decide the outcome: **what is it, and is this a prevention problem or a treatment problem.**

## What we do differently

**We identify accurately and state our confidence.** Many pests are not reliably identifiable from a phone photograph, and several require microscopy. Where that is true we say so and refer you to your county extension service, which will frequently identify a specimen at no cost.

**We are honest that prevention often resolves it.** Exclusion, moisture correction, and sanitation resolve a large share of pest problems, are not regulated, and cost very little. That answer is systematically under-covered because nobody sells it.

**We publish no pesticide application rates, on principle.** Under FIFRA the label is the law, and no website is a substitute for the label of the product in your hand. We [publish that rule openly](/regulations/fifra-and-labels/) because stating it publicly is both a trust signal and self-enforcement.

**We tell renters who is actually responsible.** Renters bear the largest share of bed bug and cockroach exposure and have the least access to accurate information about who must fix it. That branch, and its Spanish version, is the most useful thing on this site.

## How we are funded

At present, not at all. The site launched as an information-only project with no advertising and no affiliate links.

If that changes, it will be display advertising and affiliate links on genuinely appropriate products — monitors and traps, exclusion materials, mattress encasements, moisture meters, inspection tools. **Never on restricted-use pesticides, rodenticides, or fumigants.** Affiliate links will be prohibited entirely on the regulations, health, tenant rights, and prevention branches regardless, and will always carry a visible disclosure.

## Corrections

If something here is wrong, we want to know, and we will fix it and date the correction. Write to the address on our [contact page](/contact/).
