FIFRA
The Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act — the federal statute under which pesticides are registered in the United States and under which the label is legally enforceable.
FIFRA is the reason "the label is the law" is a legal statement rather than a slogan. It governs registration, classification, and use, and using a product inconsistently with its labeling can result in enforcement action.
