Monitoring

Placing devices such as glue boards or interceptors to detect whether a pest population exists and where it is concentrated, before deciding anything else.

Monitoring turns a guess into information. The count over several weeks is the signal, not any single reading, and a monitoring programme that finds nothing is a genuinely useful result.
